WEDDING

HOAD LEY—EATON. A wedding of considerable interest to Christchurch and Kaikoura was solemnised recently at the Church of the Sacred Heart, Suburban, Kaikoura, the contracting parties being Gordon Burton, son of Mrs Burrows and the late Mr Hoadley, and Margaret Mary, elder daughter of Mr and Mrs George Eaton, Kaikoura. The Rev. Dr. McRae, Wellington, celebrated Nuptial Mass, being assisted by Messrs Jim Harnett, Brian Lovett, and Peter Hailes as altar boys. The senior pupils of the Convent School sang appropriate hymns, Mrs F. H. Dry and Miss Shiela Miles acting as organists. The bride, who entered the church on the arm of her father, who subsequently gave her away, wore a beautiful trained chiffon Empire gown, the deep V of the neckline reaching down to the high Empire point of the bodice, the line being emphasised by a trimming of hand-made French lilies. Her hand embroidered tulle veil, worked by the Sisters of Mt. Magdela Convent, was held in place by a coronet of orange blossoms, and she carried a trail of arum lilies and bride’s blossom and fern. The bridesmaids’s dresses, worn by Miss Nell Lynsky (Rangiora, chief) ami Miss Pattie Smith (Kaikoura), were of nosegay-pink and Dresden blue chiffon, respectively, being made on similar lines to the bride’s dress. The whisp pink and blue veils, which were trown over their heads, were crowned with top knots of deeper toned flowers and their trailing bouquets were of convulvosus and asparagus fern. Messi's Ken Hoadley (brother of the bridegroom) and Gratton Eaton (brother of the bride) acted as best man and groomsman. As the couple left the church the bride was presented with a silver horseshoe and wedding bells by Miss Betty Burrows. Later at the reception, held at the A. and P. Pavilion, Mr and Mrs Eaton, assisted by Mr and Mrs Burrows, re-

reived the guests. Mrs Eaton wore a black frock patterned with white and a matching hat, and carried a spray of scarlet anemones and fern. Mrs Burrows, mother of the ’groom, wore a. smart ensemble suit of lemon and green, with hat to match, and carried a spray of flowers to tone. When the bridal couple left on their lionoymoon, which was spent in the North- Island, the bride wore a navy tailored costume with an ovster satin blouse and navy halo hat to match. .Mr and Mrs G. B. Hoadley will make their future home in Kaikoura.

Prior to the wedding the bride and bridegroom wore entertained at a gift evening in the Band Room by neighbours and friends, and were the recipients of many and varied gifts for their future home.
