THE THIRD TEST. ALL BLACKS WIN 14—6. The 1938 All Black team played its last match on Saturday against Australia, winning by 14 points to 6. By winning this match the team finished the tour without being beaten. The All Blacks team was the first to score from a penalty, which Taylor put over, and Saxton scored a try which was not converted. Hayes put over a penalty for Australia, the score at half-time being C—3. Shortly after resuming the second spell Bowman scored, Taylor converting, and Ramsay scored for Australia, making the score 11 —6 The final points were added by Taylor, who kicked another penalty, making the score 14—6 in favour of New Zealand. HURTTNUT SEVEN-A SIDE. COMPETITIONS. The Hurunui Rugby Sub-union seven-a-sidc competitions will be held in Waiau on Saturday, August 20, and all school teachers are requested to assist the club so that a 6st 71bs and under and boys under 15, on May 1. teams can be selected. The club is endeavouring to enter a team in each grade. The school competitions start at 10.30 a.m. THIRD GRADE. All third grade players are requested to attend a practice to be held in the Drill Hall to-morrow (Tuesday) night, so that a team can he selected. Any player unable to attend this practice should notify the secretary immediately. Senior and junior teams will be published in Thursday’s Star. Ellesmere defeated Malvern on Saturday for the Delargey Shield, by 8 points to 7. HURUNUI SUB-UNTON. UNITED WIN SENIOR COMPETITION. KAIKOURA THE The final round of the Hurunui SubUnion competitions was played on Saturday. Assuming that United defeated Hanmer, the former team would win thesenior competition for the 1938 season. In the event of Hanmer winning, which is very unlikely, it would mean a tie between United and Cuiverden, and they would play off. The points scored by United were 16, Culverden being second with 14, and Kaikoura, who defeated Waiau on Saturday by 24 points to nil, third with 12 points. Tn the junior competition Kaikoura went through the season without defeat Cheviot being second.
