The Chairman said a little more enthusiasm had been shown since last meeting, and if officers could be elected ‘he Club could carry on. He had not Mr Monk’s consent to take over the presidentship, but was of the opinion that the office should go round. Dr. Withers had been president for eight years and he (the speaker) had been three years in the office; therefore new blood was required. Mr Monk said he would prefer to see some one else in the position, as he was a busy man, and athletic affairs did not come a great deal within his scope. However, rathei than see the club disband, he would take the position. (Applause). Messrs L. Shannon and V. Wright were elected as joint secretaries, they agreeing to accept the position in order that the club might carry on. The following were elected as a committee:—Dr. R. 1.. Withers, Messrs J. Stack. H. Harrison, H. Stack, 11. Hayward, B. G. Mites, H. R. Smith. J. L. Thornton, H. D. Stove, S. B. Harris, O. Monk, W. A. Ferry; judicial committee, Messrs F. J. Monk. J. A. Johnston, P. Brunel, and E. Nelson, bushmen’s events Dr. R. L. Withers. Messrs J. J. Mackie and A. Keenan. Mr Shannon said a deal of work would be required in connection with the cycling track, the cost of improving which would be in the vicinity of £l5O. He felt that a canvass should be made, and when sufficient funds were forthcoming the club could approach the Council to see what assistance they would give. Mr Harrison suggested a gymkhana on New Year’s Day. and the holding of dances. Dr. Withers did not think it would be wise to carry out a sports meeting on New Year’s Day. but the committee should concentrate on the Easter meet ing-. He believed the people of Kaikoura would come forward and assist with funds, and there should be little difficulty in securing £5O. Mr Monk said he could not commit the Council, but under the circum stances he felt that support would be forthcoming. Mr Harrison moved that a subscription list be opened and that the question of a gymkhana for New Year’s Day be left to the discretion of the committee. Dr. Withers and Mr Shannon were appointed a deputation to wait on the Council to place the position of the cycling track before councillors. Subscriptions donated in the room amounted to £ll 11/-, thanks being accorded the donors. Messrs H. D. Stack. J. G. Stack, V. Wright, and J. L. Thornton volunteered to canvass the town and suburb for funds. Mr A. O. W. Renner was appointed as the club *s delegate to the Marlborough Centre. It was decided to hold a dance on New Year’s Evo.
