HUNDALEE SCENIC BOARD

QUARTERLY MEETING A meeting of the Humlaloe Scenic Board was held at Goose Bay, on Sat urday, November 21. Arrangements wore finalised for tho Public Works Department to take over, during the period of railway construction, all the reserves under Hie control of the Board between the Oaro River ami Waipapa Bay, excepting the Goose Bay, Kahautara, and Kowhai River aretis, which will be administered by the Board as before. The Public Works Department have the use of huts and other resources belonging to the Board and to conf nd the camping according to the rules la.J down by the Board. The BoJard will control the campirg on the Goose Bay, Kahautara, and Kowhai areas as heretofore. T. R,. Mounse ( v’s application for a lease of a paddock at Wai])apa Bay was left in the hands of tho Chairman foi further enquiry. The Native Trustee enquired as tc the Board’s decision regarding the lease of Omihi K.l. —It was decided tc suspend negotiations until the comple tion of the railway. An application for a store tiepot oi the Oaro Scenic Reserve ">is grantee in consideration of a rental of 2/6 poi week being paid. The Under-Secretary for Lands for warded a copy of the Gazette notice: vesting thi* control of 26 acres of land near the mouth of the Kahautara, ii the Board. it was decided to alter the 'meeting of the Board from quarterly to half

yearly periods during the railway construction, and the date of the next meeting was set down for Wednesday, April 14, next. Air Young, engineer in charge of the railwajv construction, mot the Board and discussed with them various matters with regard to the new control. The Public Works Department will protect the native bush ami bird life on the Reserves from disturbance by their workers, will plant clumps of native bush on the open spaces in lieu of those destroyed during construction operations, will not build sheds or other buildings on the reserves between the road and sot unless the exigencies of the work demand it, ami will, on completion of the works, leave 'as free assets to the Board such buildings and improvements as will compensate for loss of revenue as may be determined between the Hon. Ministeis of Lands ami Public Works.
