MADRID IN RUINS LONDON, November 18. Cowering beneath a death-dealing, nerve-shattering bombardment, Madrid to-day stands as an awesome example to the world of the fearfulness of modern aerial warfare, even when conducted by comparatively ill-equipped combatants. -Many of the streets are in ruin, dozens of buildings are ablaze, and palaces have been gutted. More than 50’houses have been destroyed, 250 are dead, and 800 wounded in the shelling and bombing during the last 24 hours, bringing the admitted casualties for week to 500 dead and 1200 wounded, the majority being women and children. The populace is undeterred, and is determined to keep out the rebels. Government supporters allege that the i rebels are using tear gas.
