NEW ZEALAND FLYER
CLARK ARRIVES AT SYDNEY TO CROSS THE TASMAN SYDNEY, November 7. The New Zealand “flying farmer.” Mr Ernie Clark, who left Longreach at 7 a.m., reached Sydney at 2.30 p.m. He landed unostentatiously at Mascot, where his arrival was totally unexpected, but the officials of the Aero Club soon noticed him walking to the club rooms, where he was warmly welcomed and congratulated on his successful flight. Prominent among those present was Mr M. Blow, representing the New Zealand Government, who cordially shook hands with Mr Clark and chatted about •the trip. Mr Clark denied that he had refused to be vaccinated at Darwin. He said he had been granted exemption. Mr Clark, chatting with members of the Aero Club yesterday, indicated that he regards the Tasman relatively as unimportant—just the last day’s travelling in a long trip. “People talk about using multiple-engined machines over long stretches of water. My view is if you have one reliable engine you know the margin of risk is negligible.” START TO-DAY OR TO-MORROW WEATHER EXPECTED TO BE FAVOURABLE SYDNEY, November 10. The New Zealand aviator, Mr L. E. Clark, hopes to take off at 2 a.m. on Thursday or Friday morning, when it is expected that the weather over the Tasman will be favourable. He is seeking permission to leave from Richmond aerodrome and expects to have the Defence Department’s reply to-morrow. Otherwise he will take off from Gerringong beach.
