MEETING OF DIRECTORS The monthly meeting of the directors of tho Kaikoura Co-operative Dairy Company took place yesterday morning. Present: Messrs P. S. Huinm (chairman), P. W. Adair, J. D. Boyd, J. J. Harnett, A. E. Lester, H. Mackie, and G. D. Smith. An apology was received for the absence of Air W. H. Dalzell. The manager (Mr H. A. Trumper) reported for the month of October that the quantity of butter manufactured amounted to 112,8181b5, showing a decrease of 1 ton 18 cwt compared with last October; butter-fat received was 92,444.61b5; over-run 22.03 per cent. It had been found necessary to put on a youth to assist in the butter-room to avoid paying overtime. Owing to the price of petrol having been increased by Id per gallon, it was agreed to pass on the increase to consumers. It was resolved that the attention of the dairy committee be drawn to the fact that the cartage had been increased without reference to the committee, and that the cartage of petrol had not been discussed at the conference. Rules governing the disposal of petrol and goods wore submitted by the manager and confirmed. Rules are to be supplied to suppliers. 'rhe question of collecting cream at the Blue Duck Valley was left to the manager to investigate and decide. ft was decided to secure a report regarding cream stands. Notice was received from the N.Z. Dairy Board that Mr P. S. Humm had been elected delegate to the ward conference, to bo hold at Blenheim on December 7. It was deified to invite Mr A. H. Gray to address the directors to explain the dairy industry insurance proposals. It was agreed to donate £1 1/- towards the John Stanley publication, advertising Kaikoura. It was resolved that the Secretary’s salary be £4OO in terms of conditions set out in tho N.Z. Dairy Companies’ Secretaries* Societies’ proposals. The pay-out was fixed at 1/- for October for finest, with tho usual deductions for other grades, with an extra Id for September butterfat. DAIRY SUPPLY SYSTEMS COMMISSION INVESTIGATING ZONING SYSTEMS The executive Commission of Agriculture* is still busily occupied in putting into effect its plans for the rationalisation of the dairy factory supply systems of the Dominion. This was indicated by the Alinister for Agriculture, the Hon. W. Lee Martin, in an interview on his arrival at Christchurch from Wellington. Air Martin, referring to the commission’s effort to secure voluntary zoning agreements in the different supply areas of the Dominion, said that the members of the commission—Sir Francis Fraser, Air David Jones, and Mr G. A. Duncan—would leave Wellington on Friday for a visit to North Otago and Southland to discuss zoning schemes there. The Minister said that the Marketing Department was investigating complaints about the competition of Christchurch butter factories with dairy factories on the West Coast. There had been complaints that the Christchurch factories were sending butter to the West Coast and selling it at unremunerative prices.

Taranaki dairy factory directors have received an intimation that the price of standard butter boxes will be not less than 2/5 Jd, compared with 1/6Ad last season, an increase of 63 per cent. Quotations for cheese crates are 2/6Ad, compared with 1/11 last season, an increase of about 33 per cent. The increased costs arc estimated to amount in Taranaki alone to £40,000, based on last year’s gradings of 519,146 boxes of butter and 541,774 crates of cheese.
