The monthly meeting of the County Council* will be held to-morrow afternoon. The death took place at Gladstone, Wairarapa, on Sunday morning, of Mr Cyril George Carey, after a brief illness. The late Air Carey was born in Blenheim 58 years ago, and practised as a dentist at Kaikoura before moving to the Wairarapa. He saw considerable service overseas, serving in the South African. Gallipoli, and Egypt. The doctor had examined a patient, and when leaving asked the wife to take her husband’s temperature. Next morning the* doctor rung up the lady and asked if she had taken her husband’s temperature. The lady replied: “As I had no thermometer, doctor, I placed the barometer on his chest. It registered ‘very dry’, so I gave, him half a dozen glasses of beer, and he went off to work quite happy.” The death occurred in Wellington on :31st October of Airs Elizabeth Twcml<nv, widow of the late F. Twemlow. The deceased’s husband was at one time manager of the Bank of New Zealand at Kaikoura. She is survived by one son, Air Fred Twemlow, and four daughters —Airs AL Kennedy (Christchurch), Airs McCamish (Auckland), Airs J. H. Parker, and Miss Alys Twcmlow (AVellington ).. Questions of the control of golf in New Zealand were decided at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Golf Association held in AVcllington on Tuesday. It was decided that any alteration to the constitution or organisation ■i t!ust be carried by. a two-thirds majori.’y. The formation of a golf union, to ccxnsist of district associations, was turned down, but the appointment of advisory councils in centres where it was deemed necessary was supported. r l , hc‘ County Chairman (Air F. J. Monk), accompanied by Air I*. Burgovue (County Engineer), returned to Kankoura at the week-end from AA’ellin \vfon. The Chairman should have soi nothing interesting to report regarding" the I’uhi Puhi Bridge, the Post Off.ce. and tithe important matters concerning the district at to-morrow’s meeting t'f the Council. The Chairman and Clerk were given a good reception by Ministers, Air Meachen, and heads of Departments. The “running shoes” made famous by the Hou. IL Semple played their part at the civic reception at Auckland to Air .1. E. Lovelock on Friday, states the New Zealand Herald. Air W. R. Fee, speaking o P behalf of kindred sports bodies, expressed the hope that Air Lovelock might be seen on the running track, and those present laughed heartily when Tie sa.ul to the guest of honour: “If you have not brought your running shoes. I am sure that when you got to Wellington you will find an organisation there which will have a full stock,” The Hoti. Bernard Alartin. AI.L.C., also caused amusement when he said that if Mr Lovelock had been a. racehorse instead of a racing man. his skin would have been stuffed and placed in a museum after he was dead.
