GOLF CLUB TO PAY
£965 FOR LOSS OF EYE For the loss of the sight of her left eye, Ethel Elizabeth Jensen, wife of Xeils Albert Jenson, a railway employee, of Lower Hutt, was awarded £965 8/4 damages .by a Supreme Court jury at Wellington on Wednesday. While driving a car with her husband along the Pahautanui-Haywards Road, which passes the Judgeford Country Golf Club’s links, Mrs Jensen received an injury to her eye from the shattering of the windscreen when it was struck by a golf ball driven from the club’s links by Miss E. C. Barry, a member . Before the Chief Justice and a jury of twelve in the Supreme Court Mrs Jensen claimed from the golf club £lOOO gerenal damages and £65 8/4 special damages, and the jury, after considering the case for ninety minutes, returned a verdict for the £65 8/4 special damages and £9OO general damages. Judgment was given accordingly, with costs. The club did not deny liability, and the only question for the jury to decide was the amount of the general damages. Mr G. R. Powles appeared for the plaintiff and Mr M. O. Barnett for the club.
