BASIC WAGE FIXED
MALES £3 16/-, FEMALES £1 16/WELLINGTON, November 2. An order issued by the Arbitration Court to-day fixes the basic wage rate as follows: A week £ s. d. Adult male workers . . 3 16 0 Adult female workers . . 1 16 0 The order comes into force from today. The court consists of M.r Justice Page (president), Mr W. Cecil Prime (employers’ representative), and Mr A. L. Monteith (employees’ representative). The court’s decision was a majority one, a dissenting opinion being given by Mr Monteith. Basic Wages in Australia “In Australia, under statutes somewhat similar in scope and design to our own, basic wage rates have for many years been fixed both by the Commonwealth arbitration tribunals and by various State arbitration tribunals. The basic wage rates at present prevailing there appear to be as follows: “Rates fixed by the Commonwealth Court of Arbitration for each capital city—man, w’ife, and two children:—
