WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
KAIKOURA BRANCH The monthly meeting of the Kaikoura branch of the Women’s Institute was held in St. Paul’s Hall on Tuesday afternoon. Mrs N. R. Comer (president) presiding over a very large attendance. One new member was welcomed and apologies were received for the absence of Mesdames L. S. Shannon, D. M. Jack, F. B. Sabiston, J. J. Gibson, and H. Hamilton, Misses M. Oppepheim and G. Smith. After routine business had been dealt with arrangements were discussed regarding the annual Christmas tree for members’ children and donations were received for the health camp campaign. The recreation for the afternoon was a lecture on bandaging and emergency nursing given by Mrs R. Mclver, Miss M. Turner acting as the patient. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mrs Mclver for her interesting address. The winners of the various subjects were:—Cooking: Date scones, Mrs J. A. Reid first, Mrs H. Rainey second; sewing, an article made from 11yds fugi, Mrs H. Rainey first, Mi's A. Storer second; flowers, stock or pansy, Mrs J. P. Smith first, Mrs N. R. Comer second; roll call, suggestions for Christmas tree party, Mrs E. H. Morris first, Mrs H. Rainey second. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses—Mesdames G. E. Parsons, E. Paton, H. C. Osmond, and A. S. Robinson, Misses M. Oppenheim and Monica and Mary Mackie. The closing chorus concluded a pleasant afternoon. Miss M. Mackie acted as accompaniste for the afternoon.
