LARGE NUGGET FOUND
DISCOVERY AT GLENGYLE A gold nugget weighing something over 7J ounces was brought into Blenheim on Wednesday by a subsidised miner from Glengyle, near Mount Patriarch, in the Upper Wairau Valley, who, in company with his partner, secured it from their sluicing 'claim several days ago. The two miners concerned are Messrs D. Clarke and B. Sim, who have been working under the subsidised scheme for about four years. They have met with occasional success, their previous best discovery being a nugget of about 4oz. When he arrived Mr Clarke also had with him a small glass jar about a third tilled w’ith small nuggets and fine gold, which had been recovered during the past few months. Mr Clanke is a miner of wide experience, and had worked claims in most of the gold-bearing parts of the province, ami before he came to Blenheim he took part in the famous Kalgoorlie and Coolgardie rushes in West Australia, afterwards prospecting in most- of the Australian States. He spent a good deal of time in Queensland and Now South Wales, and then was occupied for many years in shearing activities both in New Zealand and Australia. The claim at Glengyle has been worked for a long time past and was operated before Messrs Clarke and Sim took it over. So far as is known this is the largest that has come from the locality, but it is by no means the best that has been found in Marlborough recently, for only a few months ago a lOoz nugget was found in the Wakamarina, and there have been several good finds although, unfortunately, over long periods, in the past five years or so.
