LAMB TRIPLETS

AT MATERNITY HOME IKVERCARGILL, October 29. A sin gular case came before Mr W. H. Freeman, S.M., to-day, when a maternity nurse, Sarah Watt, of Nightcaps, was charged with sending to the publisher of the Southland Times an advertisement announcing the birth of triplets as follows: ROMNEY —At Nightcaps Maternity Hospital, to Mr and Mrs Romney, two sons and daughter. All well. The pediee said that the defendant had two pet sheep at the maternity home, one of which gave birth to triplets, anti the defendant thought it would be- a good idea to advertise her home, hen-ee the notice to the paper. Counsel said that the defendant had apologised. It was only a. joke, and Watt had not the slightest idea that she was committing a breach. Detective-Sergeant Thomson: There is no suggestion of an ulterior motive. She meant it as a joke, hut the joke is on her. Watt was convicted and ordered to pay 10/- costs.
