JAPANESE GUNS

NONE IN N.Z. NAVY AUCKLAND, October 28. When the- Devonport Borough Council was discussing last night a letter from the Palmerston North Council urging the use of British flags only in connection 'with the Coronation, Cr. D. G. Hardy said that the guns used to fire the salute at the naval base at Auckland were Japanese. When the Mayor (Mr Meikle) disagreed with the statement, Cr. Hardy said that the name of the country of origin was marked on the guns. This morning an emphatic denial was given to the suggestion by RearAdmiral the Hon. E. R. Drummond, commanding the New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy, who laughed when he was informed of the statement.
