AN ENTHUSIASTIC GATHERING Favoured with fine weather there was a good attendance of bowlers and visitors at the local green on Saturday afternoon, on the occasion of the official opening of the season. Mr Allan Howard, President of the Club, in addressing those present, said he regretted that the green was not as good as players would like, but a great deal of work had been done and it was hoped that it would improve as the season progressed. He thanked those who had assisted, especially Messrs A. Trudgian and W. Vaughan, who had rendered great service. He wished all an enjoyable season and called upon Mrs Howard to bowl the first bowl, and declared the season open. The following games were played:— A. Stewart, W. Bowen, A. B. Clark, and A. Howard 11; A. W. Banker, A. E. Harris, A. Trudgian and H. filler 23. W. Vaughan, S. Corney, J. Barratt. and S. T. Harris 30; A. W. Ball, —. McLauchlin, J. A. Reid, and J. Washington 12. E. Strahl and J. A. Johnston 30; W. McLennan and C. Banes 12. SERVICES RECOGNISED A pleasant little function took place at the bowling pavilion on Saturday afternoon, when Mr J. Davidson, on behalf of members, presented Mr J. A. Johnston, ex-president, with a fountain pen. Mr Davidson said all members appreciated very much the services rendered to the club by Mr Johnston, who had devoted much time to improving the green during his term of presidency and as a token of esteem he had pleasure in presenting him with a gift which he hoped would be useful. Three cheers were given for the recipient. Mr Johnston expressed thanks to Mi Davidson for the kind remarks and to the members of the club for their gift, which he appreciated very much. He wished the club everv success.

Mr Davidson then moved a hearty vote of thanks to Mr and Mrs Howard for the manner in which players and visitors had been entertained that afternoon and for the excellent tea provided. The motion was carried by acclamation.
