Speaking at the conference of the N.Z. Pig Marketing Association, in referring to the bobby calf, Air Baird said that when he visited the Waiikato seven firms were buying at competitive prices, 14/6 being paid at the gate, and this a week later jumped up to 20/- a head. Now all were paying 6/6 at the gate. In Nelson the freezing works were paying only 3/- to 4/6. This was a bit of a shock to him on his return from Hamilton.
