HOCKEY
AUSTRALIAN TEAM. The Secretary of the Kaikoura Hockey Club has received a letter from the New Zealand Hockey Association asking if a match can be arranged Kaikoura v Australian touring team, at Kaikoura, in August. Tho matter has been taken up by the committee, who will make every endeavour to have the match played here. The occasion will be unique in the history of Kaikoura, in that it will be the first overseas team of any description to play at Kaikoura. Considerable interest is being taken in the matter, and a team will be selected this week to go into hard training so that a good game will be witnessed. Finance may retard the proposal, but every effort will be made to suitably entertain the Australians (20 in number), and in so doing assist to advertise the beauties of Kaikoura. KAIKOURA v WAIAU.
The team to play against Waiau, at Kaikoura, on Wednesday, will be as follows:—Misses M. Wareham, N. Lawson, M. Osmond, N. Pluck, R. Hendry, L. Lane, B. Wallace, M. Trudgian, L. Adair, Brenda Perrin, E. Wareham. Emergencies: K. Ferry and Beryl Perrin.
