In one-day matches it would be as well for the captains to retire the batsmen after reaching 50 runs. This rule has been practised for some time ami resulted ; n all playershaving a turn at the bat, but lately the scores have mounted considerably higher than 50. The inclusion of a two.day match occasionally would allow a batsman to compile a score without the feeling that he was being selfish. That, this feeling exists at the wicket was pointed out to the writer recently when the batsman stated that he felt he was having more than his share and would have liked to have retired earlier, but was waiting for the captain’s word, and as this was not forthcoming he came to the conclusion that the game was in doubt and that runs-were required. Hit and run in one day matches and defend the wickets on two.day matches would result in perfect harmony on the field.
