KUWUIMan j cs. uouglas, iD. McLaren and W. L. Foster. Apologies for absence were received from [G. L. Rutherford, T. Stevenson and A. D. Anderson. The engineer reported that the approaches of Montgomery ami Harrison’s stream bridges were about completed, 1000 cubic yards of filling being placed; 4000 super feet of hardwood had arrived and a start would be made with the pile driving in the course of a day or two. The Gore Bay road had been graded and 200 cubic yards of shingle had been carted and spread. Macdonald’s road formation was proceeding satisfactorily, five contractors being on the job in addition to the Council’s teams. Several sundry jobs had been done and the footpaths in the township cleaned up. It was proposed to shingle another portion of the main road between the Leader aud Conway rivers by contractshingle the Sinclair road, re-deck the McMillan road bridge and proceed with the patrol system of maintenance on the Main Highway. The report was adopted.* CORR ESPON D ENG E. It was resolved to support the movement of the Canterbury Progress League in the' matter of bringing pressure to bear on the duplication of the Christ-church-Lyttelton Railway, and telegrams to this effect were immediately dispatched. Support was given to the Taumaranui County Council in their endeavour to obtain a half share of royalties on timber cut within their boundaries.
Mr W. J McClintock applied for permission to erect a gate across Carroll Street. The request was granted. It was resolved to call tenders for the re-trussing of the Hurunui River Bridge. Messrs Anderson and Waterson, of Anderson’s Ltd. kiugineers, Christchurch, waited on the Council for the purpose of demonstrating the qualities of the Sentilal steam waggon. If the Council would like to see the waggon at work, practical demonstrations would be given in Wellington next month. Some interesting figures were given in regard to running costs, which were exceedingly low and the firm would stand behind such. The chairman thanked Mr Anderson and Mr Waterson for their attendance ami'stated that the matter would receive full consideration at the next meeting. The accounts as read were passed for payment.
