FOOTBALL.

ALL BLACKS (11) v. DEVON (0) LONDON. September 13. In rheir first ma’.rh, against Devon, the All Blacks won hr 1 1 points to nil. In 1903 the All Blacks defeated Devon by 55 to 4. MARLBOROUGH 9 v. KAI KOCK '• The weather on Saturday; was excellent tor the match Kaikoura v. Marlborough, and there was a large attendance of spectators. The game was an interesting one, but lacked dash, the players appearing to be on the lazy side. It was generally anticipated that Marlborough would win with a margin in the vicinity of 2”, but Kaikoura held on well, and at different stages of the game it looked as if they would win. However, the game resulted in a draw. Htubbersfield, H. and F. Mackie, Mogridge, and Robinson played good football, and Kaikoura was too quick at getting the ball from the scrum, but Marlborough was superior in the back division.. Marlborough was represented by Messrs A.

Stove carried the whistle, and gave every satisfaction. THE PLAY. Marlborough faced the south, and F. Mackie kicked off, the ball going io line ,aml just after Shei dan was penalised, the ball again going to line. A scrum, took place opposite the goal posts, where Stubbersfield was always alert. He secured Hie leather and trans f erred to H. Alackle, who forced his way over. F. Alackle took the kick, but did not improve on the score. Kaikoura 3, Marlborough <>. A series of good kicks followed, when Alarlborougli got a good passing rush moving, Andrell, Burry, Neale, the latter scoring. Smith took the kick, but the ball fell short. being brought down. Luke accepted a mark from F. Mackie, but the kick nt goal failed and Kaikoura were forced. Broughan got going, but his pass wont wide. Kaikoura then made a rush, in which Mogridge and H. Alackle were prominent. At this stage Western injured his ankle ami his place was taken by young Haswell (a mere lad). On resuming, Luke secured, a knock-on fol lowing. Robinson then put in a good kick, Morris following up with a short punt and a kick. Another good passing bout by Alarlborougli brought the play to centre, with Marlborough forcing the pace. Kaikoura were tacking well, an 1 play again returned to centre. Smart, Borland and H. Alackle kept things busy, and Marlborough were forced. Mogridge kicked out. and Gawn accept ed. a mark, following up briskly, but Kaikoura were relieved by a kick by S. Low. Pat Smith then secured, when matters looked dangerous, ami put in a line run and kick to Alarlborougli 2“. Sheridan was then p< : ’ised, D. Lo.. secured, ami a scrum followed. A free kick was awaied to Kaikpura, F. M:u - kle taking a kick at goal without result. Morris then put in useful work, Kaikoura. got the ball going at the toe ami Marlborough were forced. cepted a mark, Aiogridge returning, then Robinson secured, transferred to Morris, who was forced out. Stubbersfield was playing excellent football and scored over his opponents every time, Miller was also doing useful work with a run and kick, and Alarlborougli were again forced. A scries of kicks followed, when , Afogridge secured and got into the I rough, and Stubbersfield and Miller got going, but Kaikoura were penalised. A penalty was also inflicted' on Marlborough. Alackle took a kick at goal, but the ball just fell short. Immediately after H. Alackle forced his way over the line again in f-ne style, but F. Alackle did not improve on the score. - The first spell ended Kaikoura 6, Alarlborougli 3. On resuming Sheridan kicked off with ’ a low kick, Afnrlborough following up » quickly, and play was in Kaikoura territory. Stubbersfield secured and the ball as quickly transferred across the field. Alarlborougli got moving, but S. Low relieved. The visitors set up another rush, relieved by a fine kick by Kaikoura, followed by a splendid kick by . young Haswell. Line and serum work followed. Stubbersfield secured and passed to S. Low, the bail going to centre, where Afogridge secured and saved for Kaikoura. Alarlborougli continued t > attack, the ball going over the line at ihe toe, Kaikoura being unable to secure the leather quick enough and Smith scored for Alarlborougli. The try was not Kaikoura 6, Alarlborougli 6. Immeniiatcly after from the line out, Marlborough were forced. Splendid passing took place by Afillcr, Gooch am! Robinson, the latter being gamely tackled by Haswell when a score appeared imminent. Just afterwards 11. Alackle got the ball, transferred smartly to F. Ala- kle, who got over. The latter’s kick at goal failed. Kaikoura, 9, Alarlborougli 6. Muiiny a‘.‘<'optcd a mark', and Stubbersficld secured and kicked up tin* field. Kaikoura were now putting in some good passing rushes, then S. Low kicked, the ball and it struck a Marlborough p'uyer. Alogridgo saving the position with a nice kick. Just after Kaikoura were forced. Some splendid passing by Marlborough ensued, the ball going a ross the field in fine style, and play took place in -Kaikoura 25.
