EARTHQUAKE SHOCKS.

TAURANGA ,May 5. Two slight earthquake shocks were experienced here this morning. Colonel Ward, who has a recording instrument, reports the first, tremor at 4.29, and much more definite series of oscillations throe minutes later. It showed movements along a line roughly joining Wanganui, and Tauranga. The indications were almost as strong as the most forcible of the Taupo series two years ago, and the general direction leads to the suspicion that the origin was in the same neighbourhood.) A marked cold snap on Saturday and yesterday resulted in a fall in the temperature last night to 39 degrees. Il was severely felt after the unusually high readings of the past few months.
