The Knox Church Cake Day will be held on Saturday in Mrs Osbourne’s Shop, Broadway, when a wonderful lot of cakes, sweets, etc, will be offered for sale.
The Reefton Whippet Club has provided a beautiful ribbon to be presented to the winner of the principal event at their meeting on the 12tb April, the Reefton Challenge Stakes and this is now on view in Mr T. Dellaca’s window, Broadway. Mr C. Friend, Singer Sewing machine representative, will arrive in Reefton this evening, and wait cn clients tomorrow. All orders left at Lawn’s, stationers, will be promptly attended to. 1 K’s Stores, cash grocers, Broadway, advertise a few suggestions for Lent, and the prices quoted must lead to business. These are the lowest ever quoted in Reefton, and as the goods are all new and fresh, they are sure to command enquiries. The Prime Minister (the Hon MJ. Savage) has now given a definite assurance that the South Island main trunk line will be completed, according to Mr E. P. Meachen’, Government member for Wairau. Patrons are remii.ded that the Inangahua Rugby League Sub Centre will hold another of its popular 45’b tournaments in the Oddfellows’ Hall to-night (Thursday). The prizes awarded are orders on local firms, and the prize for the aggregate extends over six nights. A good supper and a warm fire will ensure players of a comfortable evening

The representative of Messrs Barry and Stouppe, the London opticians of Christchurch will arrive in Reefton and may be consulted on all troubles of the eye. Appointments made with Mr W. J. Duff, chemist, will be promptly attended to.
Twenty-one members of the International Bibla Students’ Union were sentenced by a special Court in Berlin last month to terms of imprisonment of from three to four months for illicitly meeting and singing hymns after the prohibition of the union in Germany in 1934.
The Hungarian Minister for Foreign Affairs has extended to April 30, 1936, the regulations permitting British subjets living in Great Britain, Ireland, Canada. Australia and New Zealand to enter Hungary without being required to obtain visas to tbeir passports.
