GERMAN DIRECTOR TO REDUCE PRICES GOVERNMENT ALARMED Berlin, November 5 Alarmed at the popular discontent arising from food prices, the Gov* ernraent is seeking to centralise control of markets and hse ap pointed Dr Goerdeler, ex-Mayor c i Leipzig, National Comm asioner for the supervision of food prices with practically dictatorial poweis. He will be responsible directly to Herr Hitler.
President Hindenburg appointed Dr Goerdeler in 1931 to a similar position, and he reduced prices ten per cent within four montha. The Government has taken control of the whole rye and wheat harvest. Cattle bleeders are complaining of the serious shortage of fodder, but are forbidden to use wheat or rye for feeding the cattle.
American Tourists Imprisoned Reed 9 45 a.m. Berlin, Nov 6 It is ravealed that two American citizens, Miss Isobel Steele and Richard Roderer, holidaying in Germany, were imprisoned for several months without a trial on unspecified charges of treason. American intervention was fruitless, and the Consul is making efforts to prevent the People’s Court, which can inflict the death penalty without trying the cases.
