INCENDIARISM AT SHOP.
j ACCUSED’S CONFESSION. (United Press Assn.) i J WELLINGTON, July 4. > A fire which broke out beneath the floor of a grocery and confectionery shop on the night of June 13, but did comparatively minor damage, was responsible for the appearance of the occupier, Carl Oscar Andras Fredericson, aged 24, at the Magistrate’s Court to-day on a charge of wilfully setting fire to the premises. The accused . pleaded guilty. He was committed for sentence. j A statement made by the accused was read by Detective R. H. Waterson. In it accused said he left a lighted caudle under the shop with some j paper and wood. He had set the candle to bum for half ar> fore setting fire to the paper. He did IMS to get insurance money to pay a lot of debts. Replying to counsel, the detective said Fredericson seemed concerned lest Mrs. Hal* should lose money owing to his failure in business. Any money Tinder the insurance policy would have gone to her; because the policy was not in her name. Accused could not have got any personal benefit from the insurance money.
