Amid fierce fighting, heavily ladSb lorries began to move cargo from the strike locked docks on the local waterfront. At least two policemen were hurt and an undetermined number of pickets injured, as several hundred strikers advanced upon a blockade of running trucks and were met by over six hundred city policemen, who fired shotguns in the air, hurled gas bombs and split innumerable scalps with swinging batons. The movement of the cargo represented the San Francisco Industrial Association’s effort t,o open the port, which has been'closcd since 9th May.
