Glasgow Drifliy Record A noteworthy development in direct / carrying trade between Scotland and ) the Dominions was indicated at yest- j erday’s meeting of the Clyde Naviga- , tion TrustDuring recent years the Clyde Trustees and Glasgow Chamber of Commerce have bent a good deal of energy towards increasing and 1 strengthening-trade between Scotland and the Empire overseas. their efforts are already yield- | ing Satisfactory results is shown br the facts and figures adduced yester- { day by Mr H. M. Ford, the Commercial Manager of the Clyde Trust. I ast year another new record was established in the number of vessels trading direct from Australia to the Clyde. The trade with New Zealand was also the highest yet experienced, and new avenues of trade with South Africa and Canada are also being ] explored. > All this is very gratifying But Mr j Ford pointed eut that Glasgow; is rhe 1 only big British port without cold- i storage facilities handy to the docks \ a lafik which must be made up if imports of perishable products are to increase. There is also, of course, the question of expanding trade in the other direction. We want to see more Scottish goods being shipped to the Dominions as well. The closer association with Empire trade indicated may help towards that
