SELF TORTURE.
HINDUS RIOTING. (United Press Assn—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON, March 28. Hindus among the crowd of five thousand made incisions in their arms, legs and thighs Into which they thrust hooks attached to ropes, and dragged the effigies of Mariammon. The police vainly endeavoured to prevent tjiijs self torture, bug were fiercely stoned. A ’police officer fired a revolver at the crowd killing two and injuring many. The mob later fatally stabbed a magistrate and inflicted scores of wounds on a police inspector, finally stabbing him in the eyes. Ten constables are in hospital in a grave condition and one. died during the morning.
