Reefton Club The annual mee ing of the above Club was held last evening in the Council Chambers ; about 20 members attended. The usual routine of business was transacted. The election of officers for the coming season is as follows :—Presi- , dent. E W Spencer ; Vice-President, J B Auld ; Secretary and Treasurer, T L Floyd ; Captain G E Hubbard ; Vice-Captain, W Gore Porter ; Committee, Messrs A McKenzie, Fennell and W Blom. The following new members were proposed :Mr and Mrs Fennell, Mr and Mrs Yellowlees, E Downey, Rev W Bell, Misses J Archer and I O’Brien. ~ The opening day was arranged for the 18'h inst at 1,30 o’clock, when a mixeJ foursome will be played, members to arrange for their own partners. Ladies are a c ked to provide afternoon tea, and all members and intending members to take part in the game.
Death of Taranaki Public Man (Per United Press As«n.> New Plymouth, Mar 16 The death occurred at Auckland this morning of Mr J. S. Connett, aged 64, Chairman of the Taranaki County and a prominent figure in the public life of North Taranaki. He was a director of the Farmers’ Fertiliser Company, Chairman of the North Committee of the Egmont National Park Board, President of the Taranaki Local Bodies' Association, and prominent in the Taranaki Agricultural Society’s activities, and Chairman of the Taranaki County for the last nineteen years. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs R. L. Barclay, Waitara. Mr Connett’s father was the pioneer settler of the Bell Block district.
