Williams, is returning to Christchurch on Saturday morning. Mr Jorgenson of ihe National Bink if New Zealand, Reefton, who spent 1 his annual leave in the North Island, leturned to Reefton last evening, and took up his duties to-day-Mrs C. Fraser, who underwent an operation at the Reefton Hospital a few weeks ago has so far recovered that it is expected she will be able to return home to-morrow.

Matron Gibson, of the Reef ion Hospital, has made a good recovery after her recent operation, and la able to get about again. She b ipes to be nb'e o resume her duties in a week or two.

President Hoover has appointed Colonial Nathan William MacChen--ney, Illinois, to he the United States Minister *to Canada, succeeding Hanford MacNider, resigned. MacChesney, who is 54 years of age, was formerly a Chicago judge — Washington press cable.
