MYSTERIOUS GERMAN
SEEMINGLY IN POVERTY leaves large sum or money THOUGHT TO BE TT.T. GOTTEN (United Frees Assn—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON, March 16. The Morning Post's correspondent at Borne says: A mysterious old German, Heinrich Basso, died at Bressanons in seemingly wretched poverty. The authorities found a steel box containing hank hooks, showing accounts in German and English hanks and keys of various safe deposits and a will bequeathing the total estate to Chinese people through the Chinese Government, so long as the money is used for the struggle against Europeans.
A cine to his strange bequest is believed to be another queer discovery; for instance, a letter from the ex-Kai-ser on the occasion of Basse’s 80th birthday last year; a document showing Basse served in the Prussian Guard,- the badge of the French espionage service and papers of the Soviet Government.
The fortune is believed to amount to half a million sterling. It Is suggested that it represents special secret funds of the late German Imperial authorities which accumu la ted when Basse was hanker. The bequest to the Chinese people is regarded as a cynical gesture to dispose of inculpating moneys.
