New Season’s Hats just landed at Thorpy’s, Broadway. 2 The usual fortnightly sittings of the S.M. snd Warden’s Coart will take piece et Reefton to morrow, commencing at 10.30 a.m. The monthly meeting of Lodge Robert Burns takes place at the Burns Hall this evening at 730 o’clock, to which visiting brethren are invited. Gibbs’ Aard Motors will run cars to Wertport races on Monday next at excursion rates, snd anyone intending to go are requested to book at once at Dawson’s Hotel. The Reefton Ladles’ Croquet Club sent players to Westport yesterday to meet the local representatives and were most hospitably entertained, returning home in the evening after a most most enjoysble outing. In the play Mesdames Orsbourn and Wicken jnr. boat Mesdames Aitken snd Reece, and Mesdames Stallard and Wicken jnr. drew with Meedamea Faler and Aitken. Time did not permit the other games being finished.

The splendid condition of the Reefton Bowling Club’s green was generally most fsvourably commented upon by the visiting Greymouth bowlers yesterday. Mr Ahearn, ona of the finest players on the Coait, gave as his opinion that it was the best green be bad ever played upon. This should be cheering new to the Club’s caretaker Mr G. McKercher, who undoubtedly, takes a keen interest in its proper upkeep.

Maurice Sweeney, farnrer, of Walton, was found dead on hit farm yesterday with a shot sun beside him, and a wound in his chest. Ha is survived by a wife and two children.«— Hamilton Press wire.

A meeting of the Inangahua A. and P Association, will be held in the Council Chambers, to-morrow, Friday, evening at 8 o’clock, when the proposed running of Sheep Dog Trials by the Association will be discussed.

Miss Wilson’s pair of racehorses, Taku Tama and Monastic, left by this morning’s train for Inangahua Junction, en route to Westport under the care of Trainer C. McCarthy.

At a meeting of the Committee of the Reefton jockey Club held last evening it was decided to write to Mr G. C. Black, M P. and urge upon him the necessity of some relief from the burden of taxation which racing is at presort being asked to carry. It was also resolved that the Reefton Trotting Club be advised that their request that trotters be allowed to train on the galloping track cannot be entertained After some routine business was transacted the meeting adjourned.

Messrs W. A. Mitson and Cn , Dunedin report that the applications received for reservations of shares in the Waitahu company from the shareholders in the promoting company (Gold Development Corporation, Ltd. at Waitahu, Reefton, totalled 280,400 shares of 6s each. As the total contributing capital of the new company is only 136,000 abates of 5s each, the Issue is heavily over-subscribed before publication of the prospectus.
