Barometer rising soon. REVIEW AND FORECAST WELLINGTON, Last Night. General situation: While a slight anticyclone has heen passing to the north, a rather intense westerly depression has advanced on to New Zealand. FORECAST Winds: Moderate to strong northerly to westerly, of gale force in places south of New Plymouth and Napier, hacking to southerly after from 24 to 36 hours. Seas (N.Z. waters): Rongh on the West Coast and about Cook and Fovesux Straits; elsewhere moderate. Eastern Tasman sea: Strong northwest winds, later backing to south west; seas rongh. Weather: Unsettled and squally generally, with rain in districts with a westerly aspect and the far south, some heavy falls in Westland; warm and dry at first In Eastern Provinces, but later showers accompanying a southerly change.
