(Per United Press Assn.) Hikurangi Coal Mine Whole of Employees Walk Out Wbangarei, This day Reports from Hikurangi state that tn abrupt stoppage occurred ai Wilson’s mine yesterday, when the whole of the employees, including ■.be mine staff, totalling men,
withdrew wilh their tools and other belongings, leaving the mine com
uletely unattended, thus creating langer to the workings there and to the adjacent mines by becoming flooded.
This precipitate action is the culmination of tbe dispute concern in; wages. The company’s previous practice has been to make the wages up to tbe standard of 18/- per day provided tbe volume of the outpui was satislactory, but afew days ago the Company refused to continue this custom, bolding that the fault of the lesser production lay with the meo, who contended that the deficient - was due to the difficult nature of the section. The management declioed consid oration, thereupon the whole staff evacuated the mine. As constant pumping is essential, the situation is very crucial.
