N.Z. delcared the innings closed, . shortly after lunch for 226. The declaration was delayed to allow Dempster to reach his fourth century of the tour. Dempster baited very i soundly for three hours and was always master of the bowling. He bit ten fours. He was bowled by a no ball when one short of a century ! Mills and Lowry also batted attractively, the former being I unlucky to be bowled off his pads. Kempwelch again played a fine captain’s innings and showed sound defence with a wide range of scoring shots, and impressed as a future tesi
batsmen. He scored the century in 160 minutes and 1 - with Brown addpd 126 for fifth wicket. Brown batted with delightful freedom and when stumps were drawn Cambridge had lost five for two hundred runs. I Matheson and Cromb developed 'slight muscle strains.
