Tennis Ball
The grand tennis ball held at Criterion Theatre last evening in connection with the West Coast Championship Tennis Tournament was a very brilliant affair. The attendance was very large indeed, and in addition to the visiting players, included residents from all parts of the West Coast, *1 he floor was In. splendid order, and the music supplied by the Kxcelsior Orchestra was excellent. A number of extras were played by visitors and others. Mr F. O'Donnell proved an excellent M.C. The supper was excellent, and the Ladles' Committee are to be congratulated upon the excellence of their arrangements and the success that attended them. Mr B. W. Spencer, President ol the Club, welcomed the visiting players, and hoped that they had enjoyed their visit. He congratulated them upon their sporting spirit and also upon nominating so freely, which had made the tourna ment so great a success. He regret ted that the weather had not been more favourable. He then presented the trophies won. to the Misses Poole (Christchurch;, in the Ladies* Championship and to Messrs Patterson and Johnston (Christchurch) in the Men’s Combined Doubles. Mr Mercer, Captain of the Canterbury team, replied, thanking the : Reefton Club for the courtesies extended to them, and to the West « Coast Clnba generally for what they , had done to make the visit enjoyable. He congratulated the Reefton Qlub 'on their excellent management of ,tbe tourney, which was equal to that of any In which he had competed.
