Reed this day at 1.45 p.m.. LONDON, Oct 2 Reuter's Correspondent with the British Headquarters Staff, vividly portrays the conditions at the front in a despatch dated Sep f t3oth. He says .—" During the'last two days there has been 'but little further advance on the 'British front. Fighting has been proceeding in some places heavily along our new lines south of La Bassee, but none of the counter attacks succeeded. r-. The enemy lost heavily in killed and wounded. Our new positions have been consolidated. The weather has been unfavourable! After a dull grey day heavy) rain fell on Tuesday evening with a chilly wind. The flat Flanders countryside and especially the Black Country, is depres* sing to east degree. Everything is covered with mud« Picture long files of marching men, with water proof sheets right, and endless columns of huge motor lorries with a staff of cars dashing through the nits oh the roadside.
