ARAWA TENNIS CLUB'S BALL

The above ball took place in the Capleston Hall at Capleston on Friday last, September 26th, when there was a large gathering of tennis enthusiasts, visitors being present, from Westpbrt, Inanagahua Junction. Landing and Cronadun while Messrs Newman Bros ran two special cars from Reef ton, The hall and supper room were magnifi* cently decorated with bunting, ferns and other native flora, also flag?, lanterns and tenni.s raquets. Mr S. Ewart,' who efficiently filled the position of M.C., started the dancing at 830 to excellent music provided by Mrs W. Archer.

At 12 o'clock an adjournment was made to an adjoining room where a sit down supper of a most tempting character had been provided by the ladies 'of- the district. Shortly after dancing, had b"en resumed, Mr Ewart, in an appropriate speech, on behalf of the club, thanked all who had contributed towards making the function such a social and finan< cial success, specially mention* mg Mrs Rogers, who had so gen« erously granted the use of the hall and provided the lighting free of charge, and the visitors who had travelled so far to be present. The proceeds from the ball would be spent in improving the club's court for the incoming season,

Dancing was continued until 4 a.m., everybody expressing themselves thoroughly satisfied with their night's enjoyment. Extras were played by "Misses Archer, Seymour (2) and Mr T. Ellison. Working up a social function of this kind in a country district involves a lot of hard work'and the members of the executive coram ttee, including the follow* ing ladies and gentlemen, are to be complimented on the success of their combined efforts, and the manner in which they carried out every detail in connection with their social: -M sses Dunn (secreary), M.
