INANGAHUA COUNTY COUNCIL

ANNUAL MEETING,

ELECTION OF CHAIRMAN.

The annual meeting of the above tock place to-day. Present Messrs H. BettF, W. Banuor> f YV; Irving, G. B. Mclnroe, J, o'Rega< , E, J, Scantlebury. The clerk Mr VV. Noonan was in the chair. Mr Irving raoved that Mr Bet's be Chairman lor the ensuing year. lie was an old member of the Council. Mr J. (rßegao seconded the {.roposition and said he held the position shouli be a roving one. He also voted for Mr Belts oo the ground of senioriiy as Mr Belts was the eldest member except Mr Irving of the Council. No other nomination being forthcoming the Clerk then declared Mr Betts duly elected (applause.) Mr Betts in taking the Chair thanked the members for their unanimous vote and hoped to carry out the business j of the Council as it should be carried out. The elements had been against the Council, and the finances were io a very bad state. However with the assistance of the members of ihe Council, he hoped to be able to present a bitter balance sheet at the i end of the year (applause,)
