Par Press Association, Trentham, March 4th. fhe shooting at the three ranees in the Volunteer and Rifle Clubs matches (which were fired simultaneously at the 200, 600, and 800 yards range) was brilliant, and at the last range a touch of sensation was given by Speck (Stratford) putting up the possible, following with a possible at the 200 yards and three short of the possible at the 600 yards range. Burns (Karori), Higgins (Timaru), Speck (Stratford) 35. 34's were made by the following competitors:— Shaw (Ohinemuri), Duncan (Millerton), Sutherland (Geraldine), Wayte (Mataura), R. J. Kink (Opaki), Fletcher (Dunedin), Halliday (Karori), Baker (Wellington), Boyes (Newton), Fisher (Stoke), Gwindell (Napier), Mcintosh (Waikohi), Tansey (Wellington), Aitkinson, Kempton (Auckland), Williams (Ohura), Purnell (Wanganui), Kell (Palmerston North) Morey (Otaki). At the 600 yards range the shooting continued consistently good, and four possibles were put up, the marksmen being Mitchenei, Milroy and Sharland (Nelson), and Edgecumbe (Waikato). Kitchener (Upper Hutt) scored 34, and 30's to 33's were numerous, The possible at 800 yards include—Bradley Dunedin, Turner Petone, Feasy [Wellington.) Rifle Club Match, 200, 600, 800 yd—s Stratford ... 102 Dick, Riversdale £4 ... 97 Whiteman, Upper Hutt £4 07 Willoughby, Gladstone £$ 96 Bulford, Karori; Loveday,
Ohura; G. Loveday Ohura 96; Henry, Opaki £2 each, Q5- 27 take £ each. At the 800 yards stage in addition to Speck, possibles were registered by the following:— i Plimmer, Wellington; Macey, Karori; Marenzi, Eketahuna; White, Frankland, and Hyde, Hawke's Bay. Speck's performance won for him not only the 1 match, but the Carbine Cup. It is somewhat remarkable that his final shot at the final range was not recorded, and therefore counted as a miss. This he challenged, and an inspection showed he had scored a bullseye, and this made the record for the Dominion for these ranges. Patrick, Victoria Rifles, 34. The remainder take 10s and 95. Volunteer match—£s, Sergeant Hyde, Hawke's Bay, 98; £4, Corporal Munro, Murihiku, 98; £4, Sergeant Finney, Wellington, 98 ; £2, Lieut. Skelly, D. Battery, 97; £2, Private S. Sorenson, Auckland, 07; £2, Private R. Paten, Dannevirke, 96; £2, Sergt. W. Maingay, Piako, 96. This day.
Shooting commenced at eight o'clock under ideal conditions. Nelson Match, 500 and 800 yds, ten shots.—At the first range, so many, possibles and all buts were recorded that no notice was taken of 38's. There was a dead calm and fine light. Possibles were recorded by J. Preston, Auckland; Marshall, Wakari; Rowe, (tvro), Auckland; Williams, Featherston; Forbes, Napier; Duthie, Christchurch; Ching, Nelson; Bigg, Christchurch; Dodds, Port Chalmers. Among the numerous "all buts" was Boys (Newton) a tyro. The 800 yards stage of the Nelson Match started in a brisk wind. Boys, Auckland, (tyro), &o tar tops the range score with all but, and is top scores in the match with 98. So far, Tua ! Marinu, is runner up with 96, having made 49 at the 500 and 147 at the 800. Milroy is 95, and Ching, Lyttelton, 94. 1
At the 200 yds range, the highest were obtained by Greenfield (Dunedin), Dick (Riversdaie), Sergt James (Napier), 4Q each. Others securing 48 were — Wilson (Petone), Madding (Tarapuraumu), Burton (Christchurch), Loveday (Ohura), Milroy (Permanent), Glachen (Hauters), Whiting (Paraparaumu). Quite a terge number of 47's were registered. There is a light favorable wind, choppy, but increasing slightly as the last squads fired. Auckland and Nelson Matches are continuing. Later In the 800 yds ol the Nelson Match, Guy of Taranaki and Willis of Invercargill each scored possibles. Boys' (Auckland tyro) is still leading. The final squad is now firm*, j
