a » Aa idea of the extent of the gold dredging craze in Otago may be obtained from the fact that one Mataura timber firm disposed of £ 40 worth of ; pegs during last month. This sum represents 4000 pegs. A little above Gore, on the nortk side, it is estimated that •within a radius of abovt a m'le there are pegs on private property and river banks sufficient to close board a 200 acre paddock. In an action brought by Matilda Guymer against the south German Goldmining Company, MaldoH, Victoria, to recorer £3000 as damages and compensation for the loss of her husband, William J. Guymer, 27, who was kiFed by a fall of earth at tha mine, the jury awarded plaintiff £500 and £260 to each of two children.
