The Nelson Diocesan Synod meets on the 15th inst for thepurose of nominating a successor to Bishop Suter who has resigned.
The annual Hospital Carnival will be held on December 80th and every effort will be made to eclipse previous gatherings. A preliminary announcement appears in this issue.
We remind the public of the meeting which is to be held under the auspices of the Mining Association at 8 o'clock this evening.
The regulations under the Land and Income Tax Assessment Act appear in the last Gazette ; they are in force since October 31st.
Gold-bearing stone has been struck in No. 5 level of the Keep-it-Dark mine. The reef is 2ft 6in wide and has every appearance of being permanent, water is also coming freely.

We have to acknowledge the receipt of a pamphlet by Mrs Victoria C. Woodhull Martin, entitled " The rapid multiplication of the unfit." The work is written in a fluent and graceful stylo and as the title indicates, deals with the rapid rate of increase among the poor of the great cities.
One of the directors visited the National mine yesterday and found a very welcome

A meeting of the School Committee was held last night at Mr Irving's Office.
