Report : — Business has " been rather better this week, and 11 much firmer ten dency is noticeable in several different lines, notably among them, Globe, Progress, Hercules, and No. 2 Dark. The weather continues favourable to outside work, and good progress is being made with the connecting tramways and other operations in hand preparatory to crush-* ing. No change from the Argosy tunnel is reported, and ahare3 remain aa before. Big River are quoted at 5s 6d to 63, and in the mine good headway with the tunnel to strike stone is being made. The reef in the Cumberland maintains size and quality, and stone is being broken out. Crushing at Drake battery atari b whenever connection is complete. Globe have shewn a rising tendency, and are today quoted at 20s to 21s. Driving from main shaft to strike block started.' The newly erected tailings reducing apparatus is now in position, and working satisfactorily ; 75 per cent, of all the gold in the sand i* claimed to be saved by the new process. A dividend of sixpence, equal to £900, was struck to-day, payable on Mon« day next. Golden Treasure have been asked for at low rates. It is rumoured very favorable terms can be obtained for the working of the mine for antimony alone, which article now rules at a high 6gure in the foreign tno'al market. The return from the Globe battery this week does not include contents of boxes, which will remain as they are until just before Christmas. Works at the Golden Lead property are being well advanced. Hercules have had a still further rise to 3s 3d, and a fine body of payable stone* is being wrought on in the new level. The Dark has just completed a good crushing of 773 tons for a result of 13680zs of amalgam. i\ o. 2 Dark improved slightly, and have sold at up to 2s 3d ; the mine is promising well, and crushing starts next week. The four weeks crushing at the Progress battery to-day gayo 15320zs of amalgam, and a dividend of one shilling, equal to £1200, is payable on Monday next. The mine looks well. Scotia have had a liulo business up to Is 4d, and Wenlth of Nations changed hands at ?n 01.
