The inward correspondence was read > nnd dealt with as follows : — Prom Quigley and otherß :— Application for supply of' kerbing. From G. B. Proponed by Mr Quigley : That the matter be referred to Engineer. Prom 0. Mirfin asking the Council to divide the printing 'between the three Ideal papei'B. Prom Robert Wilson, Engineer-in-Chief of the Midland Bail way, re gravel reserve on the Lyell road. From Napier Bell, Resident Engineer, Midland Railway Company, asking nnder what Condition the Council would allow the company t Uke stone from the quarry at Upper Broadway for railway purpose*, also in regard to watei supply for the use of engines and general purposes. • Re* ferred to County Engineer. Mace, manager of the Matnkitaki Gold Dredging Company, requesting the Council to construct a certain piece of road in the Matakitaki district so as to enable his company to deliver machinery on their claim. Mr M'Gmley took his«eat. Proposed by Mr Bell: That Mr Mace's request be referred to the Engineer to report on at next- meeting. From A. Dnnbar, offering to: supply dog collars at the same price a« last year. From H. Jacobson, stating that Mr P. Ryan was liable for rate; on the Club Hotel. — -Not entertained. From the Manager of the -K«ep-tt-Dark Company re danger of the road being washed away near the head of the Company's race. — Matter referred to Engineer with instructions to act promptly. From Manager of the Golden Lead Co., stating that his company decline* to pay for the proposed new road to the company's battery site on the terms proposed by the Council, i.e., by payment of £1 for £1, as this road will be to ail intents and purposes, a public road. From John Gilmer : Request to be paid for extra work in the ploughing and sowing under grass of the R'-efton Cemetery.— Matter not entertained. From George Joice, request to have a short piece of road made from Dunn street in direotion of hi* coal mine, Resolved that the Engineer be instructed to report on the matter at the next meeting. Fom John Cox asking permission to occupy section 1228 town of Reefton. Proposed by Mr Irving seconded by Mr M'Ginley. That the correspondence, as read be received. Carried. The subject matter of Mr Mirfin'a letter was then d'scussed and not entertained. The report of the luapector of Nuisances was then read. From Dr Whitton drawing attention to the state of the creek from its discharge by Mr Harold's house, and its course along those sections of ground which lately have had dwelling houses elected thereon, and recommending that it should be boxed as for as Dawßon street. The Engineers Reports on several matters were read. Proposed by Mr Quigley, secouded Mr McGinley and carried : That the reports as read be received. The Enginer to ascertain if the pig* sty near the coal mine referred to in the Inspector of Nuisances report is within the Town boundary. Proposed by Mr Trennery, seconded by Mr McGinley and carried. That the Engineer be instructed to take the necessary steps to have the main drain boxed as far aa Cinnamon street and across that street as soon as possible. Proposed by Mr McGinley seconded by Mr Duffy and carried :— That the Chairman, Mr Trennery, Mr Irving, a; id Mr Quigley be appointed a comiiiittre to deal with the application of the Grey Road contactors. liv-soivtd that the request of Mr t M»l o) re line of road to MoNeiU be folaplit'd with.

Boatmans 30s and Hampden £7. Proposed by Mr Irving, seconded by Mr Tietinery and Carried i That the ordinaiy meeting of the Council in future be held once in each two mouths. Thb next to be on the fourth Thursd&y in January. Proposed by MrTrenupry; gecondtd by Mr McGiuley and carried — That the Tender Committee be appointed an Executive Committee to deal with •flatters of urgent importance -bttwien ordinary meetings of the Council. Tenders for repair -nd maintenance of the main roads were then opened aod dealt with as follows : — Section No. 1.
In connection with the above tenders, in each case the lowest was acepted, and for one year only. Proposed by Mr Irving, seconded by Mr Quigley, and carried, that applications be invited for valuation of mining property under The Gold Duty Abolition Act, closing on December 15th at noon. That one person be appointed for Hampchn Biding, and one for the reat of the County. Applicants to state sum for which they will undertake the work. Mr Quigley moved, Mr Irving seconded, and it was carried, that the followsng resolution, passed September 25, be recinded : — That the Council suh« eidise the Golden Lead Mining Company to the amount of £f or £in the | cost of making the track to- the ComH party's proposed machine Bite at Deep Crock. Tlie acounts, amounting to £1859 13a 10J, were pussed for paymt-ut subject to reductions as follows: Boat iii an's Returning Officer, £8 3s ; Roefton Returning Officer, £1 11s 6d.
