The President of the Agricultural and Pastoral Association sent home a cheese weighing 701bs, in August, as an expeiiinent, to see what careful packing and choice of article would do. The cheese arrived in splendid condition, and was pronounced by dif ferent people who sampled it as equal to the best Cheshire. No price was quoted as the quantity was so small, but the result proves that cheese can be safely sent Home, and the experi ment is regarded with great satisfaction. Auckland, February 3. Sir George Grey and several other members of the House waited on the Premier at his office to-day, for the purpose of requesting him to follow the established rule in calling Parliament together as quickly as possible after the general election. Through some misunderstanding the Premie rwas not at the office, and the deputation was postponed until to-morrow. Ultimately an entrance was effected by the northern members, met and elected Councillor M'Kellar, chairman. The jury returned a verdict of arson against Waldmann in reference to the Queenstown fire. February 4. In the Interprovincial cricket contest, which was commenced on Friday — Otago made 153 in first innings, and Canterbury lost six wickets for 43 runs. Wellington, February 4. A t a special meeting of the Executive Council held yesterday afternoon at Government House, his Excellency the Governor, presiding, it was decided that Parliament should be further prorogued to Tuesday, 4th April, and his Excellency signed the prorogation accordingly. Parliament, however, is not summoned to meet on that date for "dispatch of business," but will be again prorogued until the middle of May, when, if no unforeseen obstacle should intervene, the session will definitely commence.
