In yesterday's Herald thoro appears what purports to bo a report of tho hearing of tho petitions BRuinßt tho Reofton nnd Antonio's elections, Contrary, however, to nil recognised usage — to aay nothing of propriety or even decency — none of tho ev : dence in the caso is reported, but the public are treated in its Btcad to an editorial commentary whioh from first to lan/ is Btrongly favorable to the enso for tho petitioners. Iv a portion of tbo no-called ." report "Mr Pitt ia credited with " ten hour* infliction of endless repititions and recapitulations" whatever this uugrammatical jumble of words may mean, and wben it *• ended,' we nre told, tbe Magistrate informed Mr Pitt that bis v contentions landed him in chaos." This latter remark was made by the Bench, but not at thd »J»nd" of Mr Pitt's "endless repititions," but during an early stage of i tbo arguments, and bad reference to one particular point thon under consideration. To apply the remark as it has been applied in tbo " report " referred to in to male* it appear that the judgment is a foregone conclusion, bub theu nobody could suppose that tbia was ever intended.
