At tho end of tho twentieth inilo Arcook rctirod for sorao Ultlcjtimo, nnd Green did likowiso for a minute when ho had covorod 20 miles 1(1 tap*. Upon ro-nppocringboth men showod 1 good power and wnlked well, but Grenn aonorally had tho best of it, and holed by a milo whon ho had covorod 23 miles 19 laps. At tho end of tho twenty-fifth milo Groon was still leading by a milo loss three yards. Just before completing his twenty-oixth miles Aroock rotircd for two or throe minutes, and lalor ho rotircd for nbout eight minutes, Green going tho whilo nppnrontly nB fresh as when ho started. After completing 41 miles without much variation, Green res tired for about a minute, nnd Arcook in tho next lap retired also for a time. Upon rc-appoarmg, Arcock naturally lessened tho dislnnco between tho two, but when ho had finished forty-four miles seven laps ho rolirod, and did not appear ; Green going on in splendid form, won tho rnco at 8h 10m 40*.
