TnE Provincial Council of Otago being dnfliroiis of stimulating invention, end securing 'he uso ot gold saving apparatus in connection with hydraulic mining adapted to the purpose of extracting gold from auriferous curth more completely than uny of the insichines or methods at present iv use, hus voted the sum of £250, to be offered as a bonus for tho invention of such an apparatus, subject to such competition and regulations as his Honor the Superintendent may seem lit. Notice it hereby gi^en ir. accordance with the vote of the Council, 'that plans aud proposals for such an apparatus will be received for consideration, up till the first day of August next ensuing. The following particulars are publishod for the information of intended exhibitors of plans. The plans and proposals wil Ibo submitted to a body of judges, composed of experienced miners, uud such other persons as his Honor tho Superintendent may appoint, and in considering them tho following points will be kept in view : — ' 1: '.['ho cost of the apparatus as it appears on tl^e plan, uud its probublo cost and tear aud wear.. 2, Tl)p readiness with which it can be secured in any part of a tail race, and bo removed from ou« part to another und again secured. 3. )ts adaptability to the different widths »nd lulls of tail ru'ees used in diil'ercnt districts ; to the varying quantities of water used cither by choice or necessity ior flushing the same ; und to the different kinds of wushdirt from which gold is oltained in the Province. Inventors are expected to be conversant with the machines uud methods at present iv use, and not to oiler siiuplo reproductions of the same.
