At the adjourned inquiry touching tho death of Ann Harper the medical evidence attributed, death to a blow on the head with a weapon, arid oou!d not have resulted from a full. In deceased's house the police found an iron on which were several hairs, and a room saturated with blood, Tho jury returned a verdict of manslaughter against the husband. lotal sum contributed towards the Famine Fund to date £3.811. The Times strongly urges tho re-ap-pointment of "Vogol to the Agent-General' ship, saying it would be a graceful as well as a just act. Auckland, November 17, A largo public meeting was held, the Mayor presiding. One thousand persons were present. The first resolution was carried with enthusiastic demonstration, " That it is desirable that the financial position of tho colony should be placed before the colony by. the present Govern* meut, and if factious opposition be concontinued that tho Government should immediately apply for a dissolution." .it a public meeting held last riighi, aftdr the first resolution was carried unanimously the second resolution passed was "That copies be sent to Sir George, Grey, the Auckland City Members, and Reader Wood or Dr Wallis." A resolution was also carried to the effect that an address be prepared to the Governor urging Sir George Grey's claim to a dissolution, and asserting that if. is the only solution for'tbe present evenly balanced •state of parties. The meeting concluded with three hearty cheers for Grey.
