We understand tbafc a public, meeting of tbe inhabitants of the Innngahna County, will be held in the early part of next week, for the purpose of considering the action of the Government in relation to the Grrey road. Great indignation is felt at the manner in which Mr O'Conhoti has behaved in the matter, a ; nd a series pf resolutions will be framed for the approval of the meeting, and afterwards forwarded to Wellington. It would be ndvisable nlao to enlist the co-operation of the £frey County Council and inhabitants. The" peoplfl there are equally inter.ested with ourselves in the speedy pushing through of the rond. As -the matter now stands, the Council here ig in posspsaion of a complete survey of the rnnd with working maps, specifications. &c. and if the tender already accepted by the Council is approved of by the. Government, the contractor, could start to work aft once. Any alteration of the route now would entail a delay of another six or twelve months _ even assuming 'that _ the Colonial G-overnment is in a position ro vote such a sum as £12.000 or £15,000 for bridging the Grey river. It would be well, therefore, tn communicate with the leading residents of Greymonth with the view to a combined demonstration against any fur« ther procrastination in the construction of the road. It is mere trifling with the best interest of the district to permit the work be delayed any longer.
