TUB Provincial Council of Ofago being fJosircnis of stiinulating invention) and securing the use oi gold saving Apparatus itt connection with hydraulic mining' adapted to the purpose of extracting gold from auriferous earth more completely than any of the machines or methods at present in use, has volod the sum of £250, to be ofl'ercd as a bonus for the invention of suoh an apparatus, subject to such competition and regulations as his Honor tho may seem fit. ifotico is herebj gi»en ih accordance with the vote of the Council, that plans and proposals for such an apparatus will bo received for consideration, up till tho first day of August next ensuing. The following particulars are published for the information of intended exhibitor? of plans. The plans and proposals will bo submitted to a body of judges, composed ol experienced miners, aud such other persons as his Honor the Superintendwnt may appoint, and iv considering them tho following points will bo kept in view : — 1. The cost of the apparatus . as it appears on the plan, and its probable cost and tear and wear. 2. The readiness . with which it can be secured in any part of a tail race, and bo removed from one part to another and again secured. 3. Its adaptability to the different widths <md fulls of tail ruces used in dill'erent districts ; to tho varying quantities of water used either by choice or necessity for flushing the same ; and to tho different kinds of wushdirt from which gold is ottained iv the Province. Inventors are wxpeuted to be eonvorsant with tho machines and methods at present in use, and not to oiler simple reproductions of the same. If, in tho opinion of the judges appointed any plan shall appear to bo worthy oi adoption by tho miners in tho Province, the Government undertakes to iurriish copies' of the same to each of the Mining Associations iv the Province with full instructions us to inventions of tho inventors, and the payment of the bonus will then be determined' in .the following manner, payment being due within eight months from the date at tho copies ol'the plans aiid instructions have beou issued to the various Mining Associations.
